Listening Experience

The Benchmark DAC3 delivers a clear, open, and uncluttered playback across the entire frequency range.

Instrumental overtones are rendered with exceptional precision and realism. Vocals are reproduced with outstanding accuracy and natural tones. Transients are fast and precise. Bass is deep and well controlled.

The ultra-linear phase response of the DAC3, allows it to create a precise three-dimensional rendering of the recorded space. This space is open and uncluttered because noise and distortion are held below the 0-dB SPL threshold of hearing at all playback levels.

This experience is not limited to the line-level outputs. The DAC3 HGC includes Benchmark's HPA2 0-Ohm Headphone Amplifier which easily drives difficult headphone loads.

Windows operating systems prior to Windows 10 require a driver when operating in USB Audio 2.0 mode. USB Audio 2.0 mode is required for sample rates over 96 kHz. No driver is required for Mac or Linux operating systems.

FYI on Screws and Internal Jumpers

"Excellent detail, in fact, a bit too "clear" on my primary system, as it revealed a lot of recording errors from microphone placement in some relatively famous recordings. I don't mean that in a bad way really, it's not sterile like some cheaper DACs. I had to move it to another spot though. Worked great out of the box, though it might be worth noting to change the jumpers to get "normal" balanced line out voltage you will need some star screws, the printed manual is nice but probably should make note of this (maybe it does and I missed it)."

OMG. . . . The DAC3-HGS is Amazing and Value Priced!

"I purchased that DAC3-HGS to replace my DAC. I never intended to use it to replace my Mark Levinson 326s preamp or my Bryston BHA headphone amp. I have Focal Clear Headphones. The DAC3 HGS headphone amp is SO much better than the dedicated Bryston Headphone Amp. . . . . not even close. It bred new life into the headphones. While I thought I was keeping my Levinson preamp, I found the DA3-HGS to be much cleaner, less colored and, of equal importance, to have a much broader and well defined soundstage. I've never heard a system that produced a sound stage wider than the speaker placement, but that's exactly what I heard when I plugged in the DAC3-HGS into my system replacing my Bryston DAC and Mark Levinson preamp. I ordered an AHB2 and a set of speaker cables to replace my Mark Levinson 532H. Can't wait to connect it!."

I recently purchased a Dac3

"I recently purchased a Dac3 B to compare to compare with my current RME ADI2-FS dac. I currently use two AHB2 amps and a LA4 preamp. Speakers are Revel F328be and two svs sb4000 subs. I was curious how an all Benchmark stack would sound, and I am not disappointed. The Dac3 B is a significant improvement over the RME, which to be honest, I was not expecting. The Dac3 B is more detailed - hearing instruments in songs I had not heard before - has more separation, is faster/tighter sounding on the low end, and much more dynamic. Voices are just incredible sounding on a song like Landslide. It is a great piece of gear that will now be my permanent dac. There is something special about the synergy among these Benchmark products. I wish everyone could experience the sound I am hearing from my Benchmark system"
